Lessons Learned From Previous Trip

We visited the Philippines back in December 2022.

And one of the things I had created as soon as we got back to the USA  (as we completed the whole cycle — A.K.A., an iteration — of our travel) was a  “List of Lessons Learned” — for better future travels.

In SAFe and the Lean Agile Way of Working/Living, there is an event called “Iteration Retrospective” — wherein, for the out-going iteration, we look for things that we’ve done well, what we need to stop doing, what we should keep doing, and what we can do better in the next Iteration. Every succeeding iteration should be better than the previous iteration based on what we’ve learned from the past — we could adjust /adapt accordingly.

This “List of Lessons Learned”  is an output of the “Iteration Retrospective” event… and an input to the “Iteration Planning” event.

Creating this “List of Lessons Learned” for the sake of creating it has no value (it serves no purpose) if it will not be used or put to action.

This “List of Lessons Learned” is now being put to action — to a good use — as we prepare and plan for a better travel to the Philippines, and this time, adding Australia to the itinerary.

Each iteration will be different, but the next iteration will not be starting from nothing… it will be starting from experience.

So… what were some of the items in our “List of Lessons Learned“?

  • It was a good thing that we brought Travel Adapter. We will continue to bring this especially useful when we are in Australia, we reckon. We will also continue to bring our power boards. We have a lot of electronics!!!
  • We packed too many clothes going in… we had to leave some behind. We will be minimalist next time.
  • We wished we brought with us our power banks. We travel a lot and sometimes, we cannot find a charging station.

Key Idea: Look back and be grateful/thankful… and learn from the past — and invest the past into the future — put it to action. As for mistakes, remember this: there is no such thing as a mistake/failure if you learn from it — if you invest it into the future. Le F.A.T. is good — that is a mnemonic that stands for: Learned Failure Accelerates Transformation — you will transform to a better you!

My succeeding posts are about my family’s travel to the Philippines and Australia… and we are taking SAFe and the Lean Agile Way of Working/Living with us… and see how others outside of the USA are doing with the Lean Agile Way of Working/Living. Each post will have a Key Idea for you to ponder upon if you wish.

There are many other ideas like this — short but sweet ideas —  in my new book, ‘SAFe (6.0) Is like …’ . It is available on Amazon… and it has reached ‘# 1 New Release’ several times! Check it out.
