This can be used to reassure travelers that the proper path is being followed, and to indicate either distance travelled or the remaining distance to a destination.' 'What's a milestone?', our parish priest asked. The kids who were being confirmed (a confirmation is a Roman Catholic ceremony for teens affirming their faith) were silent. No response. I surmised most of them were thinking this could be a trick question. Then someone -- one of the kids -- yelled: 'a significant event or stage in the life of a person!'
