SAFe has a Continuous Delivery Pipeline (CDP) wherein work flows through it starting from big idea/concept (or just work within the context of the team/program ... i.e. extra features to a product, technical debt, innovation work, etc.)... to it becoming something of value/cash. A typical beginner's mistake is to start writing features without seeing the big picture -- the big picture is a product of synthesis after research. So it is critical to know the big picture first. It is like playing chess...you just don't start moving a piece without scanning the board first... the whole board...and understanding the position on hand... before you can even formulate a strategy... and the tactic or series of tactics to achieve the strategy. Flow. It's all about flow... a continuous flow of value on the Continuous Delivery Pipeline (CDP) is essential in SAFe. Ideas trickle down from the portfolio funnel down to portfolio backlog. Program work is pulled from the portfolio backlog ... pulled work to the program level goes through the Continuous Exploration (CE)... with the product manager on the center surrounded by collaborators. Product manager steers the train with prioritized features ... sequenced the right way. Note that, sometimes, work goes directly to the program-level without coming in from the portfolio-level funnel of ideas/epics; these could be technical debt, refactor, etc.…
