Vision: All About Being Efficient and Effective

Every day, I read the Vision of this blog space, Lean Agile Guru (LeanAgileGuru.com). I have this Vision posted on my office wall. Every day, I get reminded of our Vision as we continue to deliver value to our readers.

The “Vision” is our first blog post. It is apropos to be the first blog post because it lays out what this blog space is all about… and it is a guiding light (a North Star if you will) for us as we embark on this wonderful journey … into the world of efficiency and effectiveness.

Tip for you, dear readers: to take advantage of this website, use the “Search” icon or menu item, and then type in your search keyword. This website has over 756 posts – which caters for a wide area of interests — and is still growing!

The title of our Vision blog — the first blog post is: “Vision: All About Being Lean and Agile“. You may read it as: “Vision: All About Being Efficient and Effective” … which is now our new Vision!

Yes, our new Vision is now reworded –  Vision: All About Being Efficient and Effective — but has the same spirit as the first one!

Efficiency is the foundation for survival. Effectiveness is the foundation of success. — John C. Maxwell.

Lean is Efficiency. Efficiency — doing things right with zero to least waste — is the foundation for survival.

Agile is Effectiveness. Effectiveness — doing the right things at the right time through prioritization — is the foundation of success.

We have in our hands the best of both worlds: being ‘Lean and Agile’! We can ‘survive and succeed’ in any endeavor that we may choose to undertake; this is applicable to an individual, a family, a team, a team of teams, a tribe, a tribe of tribes, an enterprise, a nation, the world.

The Vision: This blog site’s vision is to share all things about being ‘Lean and Agile’; the purpose of which is to help provide the reader a deeper and broader understanding of being ‘Lean and Agile’ as an individual, a family, a team, a team of teams, etc.; and along the way, to inspire, inform, innovate, improve and iterate.

Being ‘Lean and Agile’ is being:

  1. Effective (Agile) through prioritization — do the right things at the right time.  For example, when prioritizing a set of things/jobs to do, it makes sense to do the shortest things (jobs) first that deliver the greatest value… in another perspective, do the shortest things (jobs) with the highest ‘cost of delay’. Your prioritization must make sense in terms of its value and its timing within the grand scheme of things.
  2. Efficient (Lean) — do the prioritized things (jobs) right with zero to least waste. If / when you are prepared and not hurried, you can focus on doing the job right; and make sure that you plan to factor in time to ‘Innovate and Plan‘…this is in alignment with Lean’s relentless improvement.

In the succeeding blog publications (blogs), this vision is going to be: 1) fleshed out and 2) contextualized.

Also, the succeeding blogs have these themes, but not limited to the following 5 ‘I’s : 1) Inspire. 2) Inform. 3) Improve. 4) iterate. 5) innovate.

Read on and stay with us as we go through this wonderful journey— into the world of efficiency and effectiveness — and hopefully you can employ these ideas in you, at home, at work, in your community…and everywhere else! Let us know how you do! We value your feedback!
