You get to observe different types of people…
You could learn — based on your observations — as to who the ‘Dominant’ folks are; who the Influencers are; who the Steadfast folks are; and who the Conscientious folks are… and know what makes them tick!
The DISC:
Dominant folks are outgoing and task-oriented; problems and challenges focused. They need respect, choices and control.
Influencers are outgoing and people-oriented; persuasive. They need popularity, affirmation and recognition.
Steadfast folks are reserved, people-oriented and focused on consistency; not rushed. They need security, appreciation and approval.
Conscientious folks are reserved, task-oriented and focused on procedures, constraints; analytical; not rushed. They need confirmation, set of values, excellence.
That way, by being aware of their type, ways of working, ways of living, and corresponding needs, you would know how to communicate and establish rapport with folks for the best possible outcome… for all.
It is not a manipulation… it is knowing someone’s ‘Language’ …
Thus avoiding conflict by establishing a ‘language bridge’ instead of building a ‘wall of misunderstanding’
Conflict Avoidance is a key tool in the toolbox of a SAFe Scrum Master… also known as the Team Coach. If conflict is already on hand, then Conflict Resolution is the next tool to use.
