First Principles Thinking and The Five ( 5 ) Whys Technique

Let’s imagine a team at work that wants to finish projects faster.

“We just want to work harder or stay late” – most teams might say.

But that is not “First Principles Thinking!”

Let’s break it down, instead of guessing.

1) What’s the real problem?

Projects take too long to finish.

2) Why?

Because tasks get stuck (blocked) or people wait for others (dependencies).

3) Why?

Maybe no one knows what to do next, or we don’t talk enough.

4) Why?

Because we do not have an efficient and effective system for checking progress.

5) Why?

We just did not have one.
