What Guides Our Behavior? Part 2

Values. Our Values guide our behavior. Our values are beliefs, principles, and presuppositions .

For  example: Alignment is one of my Values… one of our family Values.

So… when we (my family and I) were in Paris, guess what: We were all on the same page. Aligned to same itinerary. We can do anything we want (we were not micromanaging anyone or each other)… but at the end of the day, we were all in alignment by regular sync (synchronization) and we’ve done what we said we will do and accomplish as a family.

You try it… here is an exercise:

Close your eyes. Think of a Value you like the most (from your Personal Value System). Think of and recall of what you have done in the past, present, and about to do in the future that was/is in alignment with that Value.

How did that go? Did your Value guide your behavior? Values guide us… unless you have decided not to… then it stops as part of your Personal Value System!

You see, our behavior is guided by our Values whether we thought of that Value consciously…. or even, unconsciously. Unconsciously happens when these Values are already entrained in our mindset and as part of our habits… and more profoundly, as part of our Culture.

Exercise for you:

What: Relate this “Values Guide Our Behaviors” at work… and at home.
Why: If you can mirror this to your life, like an analogy, this becomes more meaningful (i.e., useful and interesting), your understanding of this becomes more profound, and it sticks!
Make it actionable: How can you apply this “Values Guide Our Behaviors” to creating empowering Values and breaking through limiting Values at work… and at home?

This blog post is an extension of my book “Unleash The Power Of SAFe 6.0 With Values-Driven Culture” available now on Amazon. Empty your cup to get more… much, much more content for you to consume and to share.
